About The Position

This is a seasonal position with the anticipated duration from July 20, 2026, to January 29, 2027. The length of the season may be adjusted based on project needs, funding, or other factors. The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife (ODFW) is seeking individuals interested in a career in fish, wildlife, and natural resources to help fulfill its mission of protecting and enhancing Oregon's fish and wildlife and their habitats for present and future generations. This role is located in Corvallis, Oregon.

Requirements

  • Experience working in a scientific laboratory setting
  • Experience collecting and handling biological samples
  • Demonstrated organizational skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in technical, detail-oriented tasks
  • Experience collecting, recording and maintaining data
  • Anyone who has or is in pursuit of a Fisheries or Wildlife Science degree or related degree in biological/ecological sciences

Responsibilities

  • Collect fish tissues for fish health examination from fish held at hatcheries on the Willamette River system and lower Columbia River.
  • Process samples and conduct microbiological tests at the Corvallis Fish Pathology Laboratory.
  • Enter and summarize data.
  • Help sample wild brood fish in various parts of Oregon.
  • Utilize precise technical skills to accurately measure small amounts of tissues and liquids.
  • Write reports.
  • Communicate information collected from the projects to hatchery and other ODFW personnel.
