Requirements

  • Organized and detail oriented

  • Completion of diploma or degree in biology, chemistry, or related field (microbiology would be an asset)
  • Experience with membrane filtration techniques, media preparation and soil handling would be an asset
  • Ability to lift up to and carry 30lbs for short distances
  • Manual dexterity to perform intricate and/or repetitive tasks
  • Ability to stand for up to a full shift
  • May be exposed to unpleasant fumes
  • Must be a Citizen or Permanent Resident of the country you are applying for, or either hold or be able to obtain, a valid working visa.

Responsibilities

  • Perform microbiological analyses: membrane filtration and any other specific microbiological cultures preparation, verification; Prepare reagents, calibration and quality control standards, duplicates and spikes; Filtration of samples for various tests and analysts; Organise workload to meet Turn Around Times (TAT’s); Query work list of samples, creating work groups or batches, printing lists of comparison data, and data transfer into LIMS; Maintain a clean work environment; Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality; Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures; Other duties as assigned.
  • Communicate with clients and account managers with regards to sample TAT and integrity issues.
  • Develop and validate microbiological methods.
  • Review and update microbiological methods.
  • Lead drinking water inspections with regulatory bodies and assessments.
