About The Position

Receives, analyzes, and processes incoming water samples. Records daily analysis results and prepares reports as required. Conducts routine bacteriological analysis of drinking water samples in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, including standards established by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and the NELAC Institute (TNI). Adheres strictly to approved Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and laboratory quality assurance protocols. Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots laboratory instrumentation and equipment used in microbiological and chemical water analysis, including proper handling of reagents, chemicals, glassware, and analytical equipment in accordance with safety standards. Performs required instrument calibrations, method verifications, quality control (QC) checks, and proficiency testing to ensure data accuracy, precision, and regulatory compliance. Accurately documents analytical results and maintains laboratory bench sheets, chain-of-custody forms, and electronic databases. Prepares daily, monthly, and regulatory compliance reports as required. Ensures compliance with the laboratory accreditation standards, maintains proper documentation for audits and inspections, and assists with internal and external assessments. Communicates effectively with laboratory personnel, supervisors, field staff, and other utility divisions regarding sample status, analytical results, and compliance matters. Assists with wastewater sample analyses as needed to support the wastewater laboratory operations. Will be required to drive a City vehicle for City business use. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Associates or 60 college hours from an accredited college or university in Science (ae. Biology, Chemistry, Environmental Engineering), or any other related field.
  • Valid Texas Drivers License. If applicant holds an out-of-state license, a State of Texas Driver's License must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
  • Continued employment is contingent on successfully obtaining required certification(s) and/or license(s) within the specified period of time indicated above from time of hire.
  • Laboratory Analyst Certification must be obtained within one (1) year of employment from the Texas Water Utility Association.
