About The Position

The Laboratory Analyst 2 is responsible for all aspects of laboratory analysis, including production, time management, quality control, and turnaround time.

Requirements

  • Good English communication skills (auditory, verbal, written, and reading) are required.
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and general computer skills.
  • Accurate and efficient data entry skills are an asset.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately in a fast-paced environment.
  • Well organized, with the ability to meet strict deadlines.
  • Analytical and process-oriented, with the ability to think critically in ambiguous situations.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to take on varied tasks as required.
  • Completion of a degree or diploma in Biology, Microbiology, or a related discipline is required.
  • Some experience working in a fast-paced production and/or preparation environment.
  • Previous experience as a Laboratory Analyst is required.
  • Must wear issued personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
  • Ability to stand for a full shift.
  • Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. (14 kg) on a regular basis and carry items for short distances.
  • May be exposed to unpleasant odours.
  • To be eligible to work at ALS you must be a Citizen or Permanent Resident of the country you are applying for, or either hold or be able to obtain, a valid working visa.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for preparation of standards, stocks, and materials.
  • Operates Basic, Level 1, and Level 2 analytical instruments.
  • Generates work lists and organizes analytical runs.
  • Prepares complex sample extractions, preparations, and analyses.
  • Performs calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Basic, Level 1, and Level 2 analytical instruments.
  • Assists with training of other staff in the department.
  • Reviews and writes SOPs.
  • Performs Quality Control approval reviews.
  • Carries out all required work scheduling and planning activities.
  • Completes all required data processing (including calculations, data review, data entry, archival, etc.).
  • Maintains all required record-keeping and documentation.
  • Communicates with the Client Services staff as required.
  • Delivers accurate results to clients in a timely manner.
  • Makes technical decisions for non-routine, complex analyses or matrices.
  • Monitors inventory of spare parts and consumables.
  • Follows Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) requirements and adheres to strict QA/QC requirements.
  • Uses correct methods in accordance with established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical quality.
  • Observes established safety regulations and complies with all ALS health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
