About The Position

EMSL is seeking a Laboratory Analyst II (Chemistry) in Indianapolis, IN. The ideal candidate must have three years of hands-on experience in environmental chemistry. This role involves preparing and analyzing samples to quantitatively measure chemical and physical properties in various matrices such as water, air, soil, and/or solids. The position requires familiarity with methodologies from EPA, NIOSH, OSHA, and other relevant organizations, as well as an understanding of accreditation program requirements like ISO 17025, NELAC, and AIHA. Responsibilities include following standard operating procedures, quality control, and data validation, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting analytical equipment, performing basic chemistry tasks, and compiling data. The role requires comfort in a laboratory setting with the use of acids, solvents, and reagents.

Requirements

  • Bachelors in a chemical or physical science field of study
  • Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely and without restriction or sponsorship
  • Three years' prior experience in a commercial production laboratory
  • Experience with one or more of the following instruments: GC, GC-MS, HPLC, and/or XRD
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced setting, be able to multi-task and prioritize assignment
  • Must be able to work independently and with a team
  • Must be concise, organized, and meticulous regarding work assignments
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills such Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel is required
  • Flexibility to work alternate hours and overtime may be required to meet business demands

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyze samples to quantitatively measure chemical and physical properties in a variety of matrices: water, air, soil, and/or solids
  • Familiarity with EPA, NIOSH, OSHA, and/or other potential methodologies
  • Understanding of ISO 17025, NELAC, AIHA and/or other state accreditation program requirements
  • Follow standard operating procedures, quality control procedures, and data validation established for each analytical method
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot analytical equipment and instruments
  • Perform basic chemistry tasks such as pipetting, performance of volumetric measurements and the utilization of analytical balances
  • Perform calculations and conversions, and compile the data obtained
  • Be comfortable in a laboratory setting involving the use laboratory grade acids, solvents and other reagents that require care in use and when handling
