About The Position

Bureau Veritas is seeking Laboratory Analysts to join their specialized Asbestos Lab team in Mississauga, ON. This full-time, permanent role involves receiving, preparing, and analyzing building material samples for asbestos content using polarized light microscopy and analyzing air samples by Phase Contrast Microscopy. The position reports to the Laboratory Supervisor and offers an opportunity to develop technical expertise in a specialized field within a close-knit team. The work directly informs environmental and safety decisions and contributes to protecting people from asbestos exposure.

Requirements

  • College diploma or Bachelor of Science degree in Geology, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on laboratory experience.
  • One or more years in an analytical or scientific lab setting.
  • Attention to detail and precision.
  • Comfort with focused, repetitive work at a microscope.

Nice To Haves

  • Microscopy experience, particularly PLM or mineralogical microscopy.
  • Prior laboratory work.
  • Familiarity with LIMS.
  • Knowledge of asbestos regulations in Ontario or other provinces.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and analyze bulk samples for asbestos content using Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM).
  • Analyze air samples by Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM).
  • Identify asbestos fibres, determine their optical properties, and report accurate percentage findings to clients.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) rigorously.
  • Perform quality control checks and apply proper laboratory techniques to prevent mislabeling, sample mix-up, or cross-contamination.
  • Review LIMS summary reports to prioritize and manage workload effectively, ensuring client turnaround time (TAT) requirements are met.
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Assist with supply ordering.
  • Participate in internal and external audits to uphold accreditation standards.
  • Identify non-routine samples and escalate appropriately.
  • Provide general lab support.
  • Contribute to a positive, collaborative team environment.
