About The Position

The State of Connecticut, Department of Labor (DOL) is seeking to fill promotional opportunities for the position of Labor Department Associate Community Services Representative (ACSR) within its Benefit Payment Control Unit in Wethersfield. This unit is responsible for detecting, preventing, and recovering unemployment compensation overpayments. The position requires access to Federal Tax Information (FTI), necessitating fingerprinting and successful completion of State and Federal background checks. Telework is available, but the role requires in-office presence for training and regular duties. The ACSR will perform duties independently, conduct overpayment audits, make overpayment decisions, participate in appeals, handle inquiries via phone and email, analyze overpayments and decisions, manage overpayment debts, and serve as a resource and trainer for staff, utilizing Microsoft Office.

Requirements

  • Six (6) years of technical level experience in counseling, employment placement, veterans employment and training support services, public contact work, human service programs, community action programs, job service, unemployment insurance or employment and training functions.
  • Must be a current State of CT employee of the agency for at least six (6) months of full-time service or full-time equivalent service.
  • Must have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI).
  • Must successfully pass State and Federal background checks.
  • Considerable knowledge of a specialized area of job service, unemployment insurance or employment and training functions including pertinent laws, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of job service, unemployment insurance and employment training agency programs.
  • Knowledge of interviewing techniques and principles.
  • Knowledge of employment problems of special groups and behavioral problems hindering employment.
