About The Position

This full-time position involves providing care for patients in the Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, and Newborn Nursery departments. The role requires a strong understanding of medication administration, neonatal assessment and resuscitation, and comprehensive patient assessments. The Registered Nurse (RN) will be responsible for developing and revising individualized care plans, monitoring fetal heart rate patterns, and collaborating with physicians and other departments to ensure optimal patient outcomes. The position also emphasizes effective communication, patient and family involvement in care planning, and maintaining a professional working relationship with colleagues. Documentation must meet current standards, and the RN will address psychosocial needs and participate in performance improvement activities. Safe and correct operation of equipment is also a key responsibility.

Requirements

  • Current state of Florida Registered Nurse Licensure.
  • BLS required.

Nice To Haves

  • One or more years of recent Labor and Delivery/Newborn Nursery experience preferred.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certification within one year preferred.
  • Certification in Electronic Fetal Monitoring within 2 years of hire preferred. (NCC certification)
  • ACLS preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition.
  • Ability to assess neonate at delivery and perform neonatal resuscitation according to AHA/AAP NRP guidelines.
  • Ability to perform a head-to-toe assessment on infants and adult females and reassessments as per policy.
  • Ability to formulate an individualized plan of care, revise plan as indicated by the patient’s response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of fetal monitoring. Identifies FHR patterns and treats appropriately.
  • Communicates appropriately and clearly to co-workers and physicians.
  • Consults other departments as appropriate to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.
  • Ability to assess presenting part and cardiac activity with ultrasound.
  • Coordinates and supervises patient care as necessary.
  • Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians with procedures in Labor and Delivery, Postpartum and Newborn Nursery departments.
  • Demonstrates an ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
  • Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.
  • Interacts professionally with patient/family and involves patient/family in the formation of the plan of care.
  • Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
  • Documentation meets current standards and policies.
  • Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patients and family.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities.
  • Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
  • Completes annual educational requirements within the assigned time frame.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements, including all state, federal and Joint Commission regulations related to their department and, as appropriate, to the hospital.
