About The Position

California State University, Los Angeles (Cal State LA) is seeking a Labor and Employee Relations Manager. This Administrator II position reports to the Senior Associate VP & CHRO and is responsible for implementing labor and employee relations programs, policies, and procedures for MPP, staff, and academic employees. The role involves providing campus-wide expertise in interpreting and applying collective bargaining agreements, CSU and Cal State LA policies, and relevant laws. The incumbent will analyze contractual and policy impacts, lead policy and procedural revisions, and advise managers and supervisors on complex labor and employee relations matters such as contract interpretation, grievance administration, disciplinary actions, investigations, performance management, and conflict resolution. Additionally, the position requires designing and delivering employee and labor relations trainings and fostering effective relationships with campus and union leaders. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Five years of experience in Labor and/or Employee Relations.
  • Experience conducting investigations and preparing detailed, written reports.
  • Demonstrated experience in serving as a lead or managing people.
  • Direct experience working in an academic collective bargaining environment.
  • Direct experience working in higher education within a college or academic department, or similar organization.
  • Considerable knowledge of policies and practices involving personnel/human resources functions and demonstrated experience in the practical application of those practices in a complex organization.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes involved in business and organizational planning, coordination, and execution.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate information clearly and succinctly both verbally and in writing.
  • Must demonstrate an interest or ability in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment.
  • A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily.
  • Must reside in the State of California.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Technical fluency with Oracle/PeopleSoft, CSU Common Management System or equivalent HRIS; Microsoft Office Professional Suite, and Google mail and calendaring programs.
  • Experience conducting investigations of complaints alleging discrimination, harassment, or sexual violence.
  • Experience interviewing witnesses.
  • Experience making credibility assessments.
  • Experience drawing conclusions.
  • Experience leading and delivering training for management-level personnel.

Responsibilities
