About The Position

UCSF Human Resources is committed to leading HR initiatives and partnering with the UCSF community to attract, develop, and retain the diverse talent necessary to be the world's preeminent health sciences innovator. We provide services campus wide from academic, research, administrative, and clinical units. Human Resources provides the full scope of services for UCSF employees and managers/supervisors, from strategic consultation to operational support. We strive for excellence through continuous improvement in partnership with our clients. This is a senior-level role responsible for advising all levels of the organization on complex and high-impact labor and employee relations matters across the organization. This role will be required 4 days a week onsite.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated expertise in labor and employee relations within a unionized environment
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex disciplinary, performance management, attendance, and other labor & employee relations matters from intake through resolution
  • Strong analytical and risk assessment skills
  • The ability to influence and advise senior leadership with credibility and confidence
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced high volume environment
  • A collaborative, relationship-driven approach across diverse stakeholder groups

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic labor and employee relations counsel to leaders at all levels
  • Independently manage highly complex and sensitive ER cases, assessing risk and recommending solutions
  • Interpret and administer collective bargaining agreements and University policies
  • Investigate and respond to grievances and complaints
  • Design and deliver training to managers on labor relations, performance management, and workplace best practices
  • Promote proactive employee relations strategies that reduce organizational risk
  • Serve as a lead resource and subject matter expert within the department
