Orlando Health Watson Clinic Lakeland Highlands Hospital – a state-of-the-art, seven-story, multi-specialty hospital – will serve as a vital 550,000 square-foot healthcare hub offering: 300+ inpatient beds and 69 emergency and observation beds, 11 operating rooms and four cardiac interventional suites, Dedicated labor and delivery services – including a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) that will debut shortly after the hospital opens, Comprehensive cardiovascular, neurology, and oncology services, Advanced surgical procedures. The RN Advanced Care administers patient care in an area in a hospital or inpatient setting where patients have an advanced illness or injury that routinely requires timely, intense, and complex care to stabilize and support the patient’s medical condition. These areas require a lower caregiver-to-patient ratio and highly trained team members with advanced skills.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing.
  • Meets all mandatory, developmental, and performance competency requirements for Orlando Health and unit/department.
  • Maintains current State of Florida RN license or valid eNLC multistate RN license
  • Maintains current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification.
  • 1 year Labor and Delivery experience required unless approved by AVP level or above.

Nice To Haves

  • ACLS, NRP, PALS, TNCC are required for certain areas. NRP required for Neonatal Intensive care Unit (NICU).

Responsibilities

  • Delivered high-acuity nursing care to obstetric patients requiring continuous assessment, advanced interventions, and rapid clinical decision-making in Labor & Delivery settings.
  • Monitored maternal and fetal status using advanced fetal monitoring systems and responded promptly to changes in patient condition to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Performed comprehensive patient assessments and implemented individualized, evidence-based plans of care for laboring, postpartum, and high-risk obstetric patients.
  • Responded effectively to obstetric emergencies including fetal distress, hemorrhage, hypertensive crises, and emergency cesarean deliveries following established clinical protocols.
  • Managed and interpreted specialized monitoring equipment including cardiac telemetry, oxygen delivery systems, infusion pumps, and fetal monitoring devices.
  • Collaborated with physicians, anesthesiologists, neonatal teams, and interdisciplinary staff to coordinate safe and efficient patient care throughout labor and delivery.
  • Advocated for patients and families by providing compassionate education, emotional support, and clear communication during labor, delivery, and postpartum recovery.
  • Served as charge nurse and preceptor, mentoring new nursing staff and supporting clinical orientation, education, and professional development initiatives.
  • Delegated patient care responsibilities appropriately while ensuring compliance with nursing standards, patient safety goals, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintained accurate and timely electronic medical record documentation including assessments, medication administration, patient education, and treatment interventions.
  • Prioritized patient care using evidence-based practice standards while adapting quickly to rapidly changing clinical situations in a fast-paced environment.
  • Promoted a culture of teamwork, patient safety, and respectful interdisciplinary collaboration to support departmental and organizational goals.
  • Demonstrated advanced competency in maternal-child nursing care across diverse patient populations and varying stages of the childbirth process.
  • Ensured compliance with hospital policies, infection prevention standards, patient rights regulations, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures
  • The professional nurse contributes to the knowledge and skills of others, and the continuous improvement of the quality of health care practice and organizational outcomes
  • Participates and may lead unit level and/or organizational level committees of nursing practice and performance improvement.
  • Participates in department and organizational peer review, mentoring, and coaching regarding professional practice or role performance.
  • Practices efficient use of supplies and maintains a clean, safe, and organized work area.
  • Attends staff development in-services, department meetings, and/or nursing committee meetings.
  • Partners with the nursing leadership team to identify professional development needs.
  • Assumes responsibility for one’s own professional development and continuing education.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
