About The Position

The Lab & Wastewater Technician is responsible for supporting laboratory operations and wastewater treatment processes to ensure compliance with environmental, safety, and operational standards. This role requires strong technical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline (Chemistry, Physics, Biology, or related field) preferred; equivalent laboratory, wastewater treatment, or relevant industry experience will also be considered.
  • Strong computer proficiency, including working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, and other relevant systems.
  • Strong familiarity with chemical terminology, laboratory practices, and industrial chemical processes.
  • Solid understanding of chemical hazards, including the ability to safely work with and manage large volumes of hazardous materials.
  • Flexibility to work occasional mandatory overtime to support production demands and departmental coverage needs.
  • Willingness and ability to serve as a first responder to minor incidents, following established emergency response procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse workforce, demonstrating respect for varying cultural backgrounds and educational experiences.
  • Approachable and team-oriented, with a willingness to support the technical needs of Operators, Managers, and Engineers.
  • Receptive to direction, coaching, and constructive feedback from Managers and Engineers, with a commitment to continuous improvement.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Strong commitment to safety, with consistent adherence to EH&S policies and procedures.

  • Ability and willingness to use respiratory protection (half-face or full-face respirators with appropriate filter cartridges) in accordance with safety requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrated familiarity with pH/neutralization titrations, including the ability to consistently differentiate subtle color changes and accurately interpret results.
  • Strong mathematical competency, with the ability to perform calculations related to chemical concentrations, dilutions, and process control.
  • Working knowledge of common laboratory equipment, including but not limited to pH meters, analytical balances, spectrophotometers, colorimeters, thermometers, burets, and pipets.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and strictly follow procedural documents, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and chemical/container labeling requirements.
  • Strong recordkeeping and documentation skills, ensuring accuracy, traceability, and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally and clearly with employees at all organizational levels.
  • Ability to monitor and maintain key wastewater treatment (WT) parameters on an hourly basis, ensuring system stability and regulatory compliance.
  • Mechanically inclined, with the ability to understand and support basic equipment operation and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to prepare laboratory reagents accurately and safely in accordance with established procedures.
  • Conduct routine inspections of accumulation areas and enforce proper labeling, storage, and handling requirements.
  • Willingness to perform manual labor, including moving 55-gallon drums using appropriate equipment (e.g., drum dolly) and lifting up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
  • Comfortable working with chemical hazards and adhering to all safety protocols and PPE requirements.
  • Good vision (with or without corrective lenses) to safely and effectively perform detailed laboratory and inspection tasks.
