About The Position

This role involves collecting laboratory specimens, processing them, performing analyses, and reporting patient test results. The personnel will maintain records of quality control, instrument calibration, and maintenance. They must identify and resolve issues that could affect test performance or reporting, documenting all corrective actions. Accurate and timely transmission of patient data to the Electronic Health Record and final report destination is crucial. Responsibilities also include managing supply inventory, ensuring supplies are viable, and adhering to safety procedures, including proper medical waste disposal. The role requires compliance with corporate policies, HIPAA regulations, and performing other assigned duties.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent in a chemical, physical, or biological science from an accredited institution.
  • Completion of a phlebotomy certification program, or have the experience and ability to perform Phlebotomy.
  • Demonstrates effective written and verbal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Collects all laboratory specimens according to laboratory guidelines.
  • Follows laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analyses, reporting, and record maintenance.
  • Maintains records of proficiency testing samples tested in the same manner as patient specimens.
  • Adheres to quality control policies and documents all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance.
  • Follows established policies and procedures when test systems are not within acceptable performance levels.
  • Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting and corrects them or notifies the Director of Laboratory Services.
  • Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
  • Ensures test results and patient-specific data are accurately and reliably sent from point of data entry to final report destination in a timely manner.
  • Accurately and systematically records patient-related data in the Electronic Health Record.
  • Maintains adequate inventory of supplies and ensures their viability before use.
  • Rotates older stock of supplies.
  • Follows all safety procedures outlined in the Laboratory Safety Manual and OSHA regulations.
  • Ensures medical waste is properly disposed of.
  • Adheres to the terms and conditions of the corporate compliance program.
  • Ensures confidential information in accordance with BSHC's policy and current HIPAA regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
