About The Position

This full-time Lab Technician position is located at the South Side Health Center in St. Joseph, MO. The role involves performing laboratory tests, maintaining equipment, ensuring quality assurance, preparing specimens, and communicating results. The technician will work cooperatively with healthcare providers and personnel, adhering to governing body requirements and internal policies. Essential functions include possessing cognitive skills for interpreting instructions, demonstrating tact and communication skills, performing physical tasks such as standing and walking, maintaining confidentiality, professional appearance, and handling high-demand situations. The role also requires understanding medical terminology, fine motor skills for technical procedures, and compliance with HIPAA.

Requirements

Possess High School diploma.
Possess three years experience in hospital or clinic setting.
BLS certification required.
Must possess and maintain a valid Drivers License, and proof of insurance for personal vehicle used for business.
Possess light typing skills, computer knowledge required.
Must demonstrate the ability to navigate from the computer desktop to Microsoft (MS) Office Word, MS Office Excel, and MS Office Outlook.
Must demonstrate accuracy, proficiency, and efficiency.
Must possess ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from patients, and other individuals encountered in the course of employment.
Ability to visually assess patient condition and communicate with the patients and families with tact and professionalism.
Customer service oriented with strong interpersonal skills and phone etiquette.
Possess cognitive skills necessary to read and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in oral or written form.
Must demonstrate tact patience and good communication skills in dealing with patients, co-workers and the public.
Must be able to talk, see, hear, write, stand, walk, and kneel.
Must respect and maintain confidentiality at all times.
Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times.
Must be able to perform job requirements in high demand situations.
Possess cognitive skills necessary to understanding medical terminology, instructions, medical records, and identifying problems and offering solutions.
Possess fine motor skills necessary to perform technical procedures, eye/hand coordination.
Must comply with the provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996.

Nice To Haves

Two years acute care nursing or two years office nursing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Work cooperatively with Northwest Health Services (NHS) providers, supervisors, and personnel to carry out the goals and objectives of NHS according to governing body requirements and established internal policies and procedures.
Treat others respectfully whether it is a patient, fellow employee, member of management, customer, vendor or visitor to our premises.
Perform Lab tests sometimes using multiple pieces of equipment along with performing maintenance and troubleshooting procedures.
Perform and report Quality Assurance controls on all tests and procedures run daily, in accordance with CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments) regulations and maintain CLIA licensure.
Follows policy and procedure for laboratory services as requested.
Performs and report proficiency testing and/or quality assurance as required and maintains documentation of.
Perform phlebotomy procedures per protocol as directed by provider staff.
Prepare laboratory specimens for shipment.
Perform responsibilities outlined in laboratory manual - specimen processing, test performance and reporting test results.
Follow established infection control guidelines.
Maintain accurate laboratory records in neat and orderly fashion.
Communicate abnormal results of tests promptly to Providers.
Order laboratory supplies, as directed.
Keep the Lab adequately stocked and maintained in a clean, neat, and orderly fashion at all times.
Maintain lab requisition log for all labs daily.
Maintain current CPR certification.
Attend and actively participate in Clinical Staff meetings and in-services.
Assist with orientation of rotating clinical personnel.
Attend educational seminars and conferences as directed and approved by the Clinic Manager and /or Lab Coordinator to maintain and improve expertise in laboratory services.
Complies with the provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996.
Perform other duties as assigned.
