This position is a lab technician in the Neuroscience department in the school of medicine at Georgetown University. The research program in the Department of Neuroscience will be greatly served by this position. My externally-funded research program requires personnel to manage genotyping and breeding of the mouse colony, perform basic to midlevel research techniques such as brain slicing and histology, stereotaxic surgery, in situ hybridization, and possibly behavioral experiments. If this position is not filled, I will have less time to write grants, write papers, perform electrophysiology and optogenetic experiments and mentor undergraduate students, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows. The technician will play a major role in the scientific and intellectual productivity of the lab working with undergraduate and graduate students as well as post-doctoral fellows. The Technician will work closely with the lab Pl to manage lab resources including: transgenic mice, instrumentation, materials, and intellectual resources. They will aid in the set of a new laboratory, including the ordering and inventory of supplies and equipment. They will contribute to the development and implementation of standard protocols and procedures for the lab. These protocols and procedures will include, but are not limited to, histological staining of brain slices, stereotaxic surgeries, fiber photometry, optogenetics, and rodent behavior assays. They will manage the mouse colony including breeding and managing mouse genotyping.
