About The Position

The Chemo/Lab Tech Medical Assistant assists chemotherapy nurses and laboratory personnel. The role supports patient flow and comfort in the chemotherapy area, obtains and reports vital signs, handles specimens, and assists with injections and laboratory documentation in accordance with established procedures.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• At least 1 year of experience as a Medical Assistant.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Professional and reliable.
• Good interpersonal and organizational skills.
• Demonstrated care and compassion when working with patients.
• Ability to multitask and be detail-oriented.
• Good computer skills.

Nice To Haves

• Oncology experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Escort patients to the chemotherapy area with their chart and sign them in on the sign-in sheet.
• Obtain each patient's vital signs, place the vital-sign sheet on the chart, and report abnormal readings to a nurse.
• Provide comfort measures to patients in the unit.
• Assist nursing staff with transferring patients.
• Assist patients to the restroom as needed.
• Label specimens appropriately for processing.
• Before administering an injection, check the chart for authorization and the order, and verify the injection site, dose, and schedule.
• Use universal precautions when administering injections.
• Dispose of sharps in the proper biohazardous container.
• Document on the appropriate flow sheet, including documenting laboratory results on the proper flow sheet.
• Maintain the daily sign-in sheet.
• Order injections daily using the proper form.
