Gathers samples for analytical testing and performs various laboratory tests on products, raw materials, ingredients and lab samples to determine if they meet necessary requirements. Prepares samples of products for future reference and documents results. Examines results of audit tests to identify problems with such things as sanitation and manufacturing processes. Enters laboratory data into computer system. Alert management when products are out of specification. Responsible for reporting food safety or quality problems to management and assists in appropriate personnel. Examines inventory to determine what supplies need to be ordered and informs appropriate personnel. Trains other employees on the proper use of equipment and procedures. Maintain a clean and orderly work environment. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Requirements

  • Two-year Associates Degree in a Dairy or Food related field, or the equivalent experience.
  • Strong math and inspection skills.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions.
  • Basic Computer Skills
  • Ability to work under adverse conditions to include limited exposure to a 35° temperature cold storage environment.
  • Flexibility to work weekends, shifts and overtime.
  • Physically able to lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to read meters and charts accurately and possess skills to maintain lab records.
  • Familiarity with lab procedures, such as the dairy lab; proper use and care of laboratory testing and analyses equipment.
  • Highly self-motivated and able to work without supervision.
  • Work requires frequent standing, walking, and repetitive motions with good dexterity.
  • Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels.
  • Should be able to work and perform well in a team environment, which may on occasion include pressure situations.
