About The Position

The J.R. Simplot Company is a diverse, privately held global food and agriculture company headquartered in Boise, Idaho. We are a true farm-to-table company with an integrated portfolio including food processing and food brands, phosphate mining, fertilizer manufacturing, farming, ranching and cattle production, and other enterprises related to agriculture. Summary The lab technician (QA/QC) will be responsible for routine laboratory analysis by conducting a wide range of tests on fertilizer products and related materials. Lab technicians work within a team environment but also may work in the lab as a single point of contact. The lab technician team supports the Don Plant with up to 24/7 laboratory coverage.

Requirements

  • High School diploma (or GED) Required
  • 1+ years related experience or training.
  • Time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to interact with operators and managers.
  • Must be attentive to technical details and have excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Proficient with Microsoft applications.
  • Demonstrate ability to balance multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
  • Ability to work rotating weekends and extended hours, as needed.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Post secondary education, 2- or 4-year degree in a related field - desired

Responsibilities

  • Analyzes the quality of fertilizer products, raw materials, and intermediate process control streams by weighing, preparing, measuring, calculating, and passing off data taken from samples using standard methods of analysis.
  • Use of laboratory equipment including P2O5 auto analyzers, metals analysis using ICP-OES, automated titrators, NH3-N using rapid distillation, grinding mill, pH meter.
  • Verifies test results using trending and standard reference materials. Reports test results after verification.
  • Use of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for sample login, capturing test data and results, and creating lab reports including COAs.
  • Prepares chemical solutions, standards and reagents for laboratory quality control and plant operators.
  • Analyze water samples for regulatory requirements.
  • Keeps work area clean, safe, and organized by cleaning glassware, counters, and surfaces.
  • Make minor repairs of lab equipment.
  • Some overtime is required.
  • After training will work alone up to 40% of the time.
  • Must be able to lift to fifty pounds.
