About The Position

Acuren is excited to welcome a Laboratory Technician to our growing team. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on laboratory experience, develop your skills and contribute as part of a supportive and collaborative team.

Requirements

Engineering technology degree or technical diploma
Comfortable with handling large specimens (i.e. rebar or as-received parts)
Able to lift up to 35kg (75 lbs)
Well organized, detail-oriented, manages time well
Able to work efficiently in a fast paced setting
Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a collaborative team environment
Strong verbal communication and ability to follow written directions
Team player with willingness to learn and develop on the job
Strong computer skills
Fluent in written and spoken English

Nice To Haves

Previous experience with mechanical testing equipment and software is considered an asset (i.e. Bluehill, Instron, etc.)
Familiarity with Instron tensile machines considered an asset

Responsibilities

Operating equipment and conducting chemical, metallurgical and mechanical testing.
Conducting chemical analysis using an OES spark machine.
Performing metallurgical sample preparation and basic examination using optical microscopy.
Conducting hardness testing.
Potentially performing other mechanical testing such as Charpy impact testing, bend testing, and tensile testing.
Following testing procedures outlined in ASTM, ASME, SAE, CWB, ISO, AWS specifications and custom specifications for testing.
Following company quality standards and safety procedures.
Conducting verifications and calibrations on equipment and parts as needed.
Operating equipment and following outlined test procedures.
Following maintenance and safety checklists for equipment as needed.
Preparing test reports with necessary customer information, results and conclusions.
Collaborating with other departments on high volume and large scale projects.
