About The Position

HP Hood is seeking a self-driven Lab Technician to join their team. This is a graveyard position with competitive benefits and opportunities for advancement. The Lab Technician will be responsible for performing various laboratory tests to ensure products meet quality and safety standards, including testing raw milk, finished products, and processing samples. This role also involves data entry, report generation, equipment maintenance, and ensuring sanitation and GMP compliance throughout the facility.

Requirements

  • BS in Food Science or related field
  • Knowledge of food microbiology, chemistry, dairy standards and sanitation
  • Intermediate Computer Skills including Word and Excel
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Good decision making skills
  • Ability to work well with others or alone
  • Ability to follow all Good Manufacturing Practices

Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory testing to meet standards set forth in the PMO and in Standard Methods for the Examination of Dairy Products.
  • Pull, log, and test finished products and processing samples at required intervals.
  • Enter data and generate reports utilizing all lab equipment and software.
  • Audit CIP chemical concentrations and ensure compliance to company specifications.
  • Prepare media and other lab controls.
  • Operate autoclave to sterilize plates and equipment as needed while ensuring sterility tests are accurate.
  • Assist in all lab equipment PMs.
  • Track enzyme and vitamin usage utilizing various logs.
  • Test all incoming raw milk including flavor, antibiotic testing, DMC, DMSCC and cryoscope.
  • Responsible for the daily cleanup and review of racking systems in the incubators and cooler to set up for shelf life testing.
  • Participate in environmental testing in and around plant that including: air plating, water sampling, etc.
  • Verify that plant equipment meets sanitation requirements prior to start up.
  • Conduct daily audits of the plant for sanitation and GMP compliance; follow through on noted deviations.
  • Physically evaluate all end-of-code product including flavor, body, and carton and bottle analyses.
  • Physically evaluate all in-process and finished product samples including flavor, body and carton/bottle analyses.
  • Uphold quality, safety and cleanliness standards throughout the facility.
