About The Position

The University of Virginia, Department of Pathology, School of Medicine, is seeking a Lab Technician to work in the research group of Dr. Matthew McCord. This group studies the molecular and genetic basis of innate and acquired therapy resistance in brain tumors, especially glioblastoma, and identifies ways to overcome resistance. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional organizational skills, strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Previous experience in related areas is welcome, but extensive training will be provided upon hiring.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree required; may accept equivalent combination of experience, education, certification in lieu of degree.
  • Two or more years of lab experience which may include student experience.
  • Exceptional organizational skills

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Cell culture
  • CRISPR gene editing
  • siRNA gene suppression
  • Nucleic acid and protein extraction
  • Immunoblots
  • PCR
  • Preparing samples for DNA and RNA sequencing
  • Flow cytometry
  • Mouse procedures and care, and data analysis
