About The Position

NOVA Engineering is seeking a Construction Materials Laboratory Technician for their Raleigh, NC location. This role involves performing daily lab work, assisting project managers, aiding with scheduling, and undertaking other necessary duties. The position offers training for the right candidate. The successful candidate will be responsible for quality assurance/quality control testing for transportation projects, with commercial experience being a plus. Key responsibilities include performing on-site observations/inspections, collecting samples according to FDOT, ACI, and ASTM requirements, conducting specific QA/QC tests on construction materials and transportation components, and meticulously maintaining records of observations, inspections, and test results.

Requirements

  • Ability to lift and/or move 35-100 pounds regularly.
  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written).

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years’ construction materials testing experience in a laboratory setting is preferred.
  • ACI Concrete Strength Testing certification is desired.
  • ACI Aggregate Testing Level I and II certification is desired.
  • NCDOT certifications are desired.
  • Commercial experience is very beneficial.

Responsibilities

  • Perform daily work in the lab.
  • Assist project managers.

  • Provide quality assurance/quality control testing for transportation projects.
  • Perform on-site observations/inspections.
  • Collect samples per FDOT, ACI, and ASTM requirements.
  • Perform specific QA/QC tests on construction materials and transportation components.
  • Maintain detailed records of observations, inspections, and test results.
  • Conduct and document tests on various construction materials with precision and attention to detail.
  • Work independently to ensure test results are logical, complete, and ready for review.
  • Ensure all laboratory equipment is well-maintained and properly calibrated.
  • Keep the lab running efficiently and ensure the accuracy of testing processes.
