About The Position

Works under the supervision of the Core Laboratory Manager. The Laboratory Technical Assistant's primary job function is to process specimens. Performs non-complex diagnostic testing under the supervision of a MLT or MT. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• GED/High School Diploma required.
• Three months of laboratory experience required.
• BMVL Required (Must maintain eligibility to drive as determined by SOMC insurance carriers).

Nice To Haves

• Basic chemistry and biology courses are preferred

Responsibilities

• Orders and processes specimens for various laboratory tests. Prepares for send outs as required.
• Performs non-complex testing on automated instruments under the supervision of a Medical Laboratory Technician or Medical Technologist as required.
• Performs and documents Quality Control and daily instrument maintenance.
• Centrifuges specimens. Checks pendings and aliquots specimens for testing. Prepares and labels simple solutions for use in diagnostic testing. Prepares specimens for transport to laboratories.
• Keeps work area neat and clean. Follows all safety policies and procedures. Takes inventory, stocks and orders supplies for area.
• Participates in training and orientation of new staff and students.
• Assists managers/supervisors with clerical and technical support duties as assigned.
