About The Position

The Laboratory Technician I is an entry-level role that performs hands-on tasks like receiving and preparing patient specimens, maintaining lab equipment and supplies, and ensuring samples are properly processed and ready for testing, enhancing the lab's accuracy and efficiency while adhering to standard operating procedures. Our team of dedicated experts will provide the necessary training to perform this role successfully, however, a basic understanding of routine laboratory processes and familiarity with common lab equipment is preferred. Requires a bachelor's degree in a scientific field (e.g. biological sciences, biomedical sciences, MCDB, Bio, Chem).

Requirements

  • A Bachelor of Science in a scientific field
  • Strong data entry skills, proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Ability to communicate effectively, document, and follow instructions with a high level of accuracy
  • Ability to adapt to changing procedures, policies, work environment, and responsibilities
  • Ability to work the indicated shift and training schedules

Nice To Haves

  • 0-1 year of experience in laboratory settings
  • Some exposure to microbiology techniques, aseptic technique, preferably in a CLIA/CAP environment
  • Basic understanding of routine laboratory processes and familiarity with common lab equipment

Responsibilities

  • Assist in proper accessioning, labeling, and other processing activities.
  • Responsible for maintaining cleanliness of laboratory space and equipment. Disposing of biohazards/specimens as appropriate.
  • Recording and performing daily, weekly and monthly PMs.
  • Responsible for maintaining all appropriate logs for sample processing.
  • Responsible for basic troubleshooting, escalating any errors or complex issues to the supervisor.
  • Responsible for responding to all email requests and basic questions.
  • Assists with inventory management such as scheduled counts, re-stocking and rotating reagents.
  • Responsible for communicating regularly with other members of the team and laboratory management.
  • Responsible for carrying out equipment/reagent verifications.
  • Assist other departments as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Follows all SOPs and controlled document practices.
  • Performs all document control system tasks as assigned.
  • Follows all state, CAP, CLIA guidelines.
  • Follows HIPAA guidelines.
  • Responsible for following all safety and chemical hazards guidelines.
  • Assists with inspection readiness as needed.
