About The Position

A Laboratory Technical Assistant II accessions patients/specimens into the department by validating and keying correct account and collection information and orders lab procedures in LIS. Processes patient specimens and blood products in preparation for testing within department and loads specimens onto automated analyzers. Enters inventory, orders supplies/products, performs departmental procedures, instrument maintenance, and issues blood products. A Laboratory Technical Assistant II must follow established laboratory standards, practices, and procedures, and understands and complies with the Behavior Standards and department policies, procedures and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Accession patients/specimens into the department by validating and keying correct account and collection information and orders lab procedures in LIS.
  • Process patient specimens and blood products in preparation for testing within the department and load specimens onto automated analyzers.
  • Enter inventory, order supplies/products, perform departmental procedures, instrument maintenance, and issue blood products.
  • Follow established laboratory standards, practices, and procedures, and understand and comply with the Behavior Standards and department policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Provide and understand the specific communication, developmental and treatment needs of patients, families, and visitors ranging in age from fetus to geriatric.
  • Perform instrument maintenance, and the loading of patient samples and RBC units onto instruments for testing.
  • Maintain inventory levels (blood, reagent, supplies) within the department with all associated ordering, tracking, and documentation.
  • Accurately perform blood component visual inspection for acceptance and issuance.
  • Accurately issue blood products in a timely manner.
  • Maintain accurate records.
  • Accurately track and validate the bi-monthly blood supplier invoices.
  • Withstand the stress and demands of an active position while responding calmly and efficiently in crisis situations.
  • Work as a team member, demonstrating good interpersonal skills.
  • Communicate professionally with physicians, management, and associates.
  • Maintain stocked workbenches for the technical associates.
  • Perform duties and adhere to requirements of Rural Health Clinic Standards as they relate to Corporate Compliance, Human Resources, Infection Prevention, Equipment Maintenance, Quality, and Regulatory Management.
  • Assist with obtaining and maintaining Rural Health Clinic certification.
