Lab Technical Assistant (BCGEU) - Casual - Flexible Shift - Burnaby, BC
About The Position
As a Lab Technical Assistant, you will be responsible for the preparation, setup, and limited test processing of specimens in the laboratory, and help deliver better health outcomes for patients through the delivery of fast and accurate test results. This is a permanent, casual position with flexible shift requirements, requiring availability five days a week from morning to evening (4:30 pm - 12:30 am). The role involves receiving, accessioning, sorting, and preparing specimens for testing, performing manual and automated testing procedures under the guidance of a Medical Laboratory Technologist, responding to phone inquiries, cleaning and maintaining instruments, and participating in problem-solving to drive continuous improvement while ensuring test quality and personal safety.
Requirements
- High School diploma with courses in post-secondary science or medical terminology
- Ability to work in a fast-paced collaborative environment while being detail oriented and hands on
- Excellent communication skills to enable you to relate with a wide variety of people
- Strong computer skills in MS Office products
- Problem solving skills, including the ability to identify and follow-up on issues
- Ability to maintain the strictest standards of safety, patient privacy and confidentiality
- Must be able to type 60-70 WPM

Responsibilities
- Receive, accession, sort and prepare specimens for testing

- Respond to phone inquiries from LifeLabs employees and clients such as hospitals, clinics and physicians
- Clean, maintain, and operate instruments and other equipment
- Participate in problem solving in work organization and workflow to drive continuous improvement
