About The Position

Performs analyses on biological specimens e.g., tissue and cell samples, to aid health care providers in the diagnosis, clinical triaging (e.g., with IHC testing) and treatment of patients. Performs highly-complex specimen processing as defined by CLIA requirements and testing in specialized laboratory areas using proper safety procedures. Prepares complex specimens for diagnostic and prognostic analyses while maintaining positive patient identification throughout the process. Triages specimens according to level of complexity and patient history. Participates in and oversees the operational support activities necessary to maintain and optimize testing capabilities. Performs order entry/troubleshooting and retrieves and verifies patient information using appropriate sources. Performs training, competency, quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) procedures to ensure accurate reporting of test results. Assesses and verifies the validity of patient test results through evaluation of values before reporting patient test results. Performs preventive maintenance, troubleshooting and calibration procedures related to each test platform. Implements standard operating procedures. Works with minimal supervision and attention to detail is essential. May be responsible for handling chemicals and/or reagents including chemical hazardous waste materials. Previous experience in Immunohistochemistry (IHC) laboratory procedures preferred. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship; Also, Mayo Clinic DOES NOT participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree in chemistry or a human biological science is required.
Must be capable of producing accurate results under time constraints, multi-tasking, and performing in a fast-paced and changing environment.
Utilize multiple computer systems and testing platforms, and have the ability to deal effectively with people in stressful situations.
Must possess good communication skills and be able to work closely with others.
Must be able to accommodate scheduling adjustments, off-shifts, holiday, on-call, and weekend work assignments.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience in Immunohistochemistry (IHC) laboratory procedures preferred.
Experience with operation and troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and assay systems is desirable.
