About The Position

ATI is currently seeking a Lab Technician 6 (Machinist) for our lab department in our Monroe, NC facility. Qualified candidates must be self-motivated, able to work as a team, understand and follow work instructions, multi-task, and show attention to detail. The “X” in the job title represents the grade of the position and is determined by skill points. Skill points are based on proficiency and ATI SM qualification in Chemistry, Mechanical, Metallography, and Sample Sawing & Machining.

Requirements

• Basic math skills to include addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure including whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to read measuring tapes.
• Ability to read and follow written procedures.

Responsibilities

• Operate abrasive saws to cut a variety of test samples according to drawings and standard plans.
• Set-up and operate lathe, cylindrical and surface grinders, milling machine, broader, drill press and other machine tools.
• Perform Chemistry preparations, Atomic Absorption (Furnace and Flame), Inductively Coupled Plasma, XRF Spectrometry, Carbon and Sulfur Combustion, Oxygen, Nitrogen and Hydrogen Determinations, Optical Emission Spectrometry.
• Perform Mechanical tests including Heat Treat Samples, Room and Elevated Temperature Tensiles, Rapid Strain Rate Tensiles, Shear, Blend, and Flattening Tests, Stress Rupture, Hardness, and Charpy Impact Tests.
• Perform Metallography preparation (including mounting, polishing, and etching samples).
• Use laboratory microscope to evaluate grain structure as to size, uniformity, inclusions and other specified factors.
• Perform Micro and Macro photographs and Automated Image Analysis.
