About The Position

This PRN position involves collecting patient samples using best practices for phlebotomy, documenting receipt of samples in the Lab Information System (LIS), and preparing them for analysis. The role requires collecting patient specimens in accordance with laboratory policies, procedures, and regulatory standards, and correlating patient samples to provider laboratory test orders in the LIS/EMR. The technician will perform and report Point of Care laboratory testing, use education and experience to identify and resolve patient circumstances that might interfere with accurate sample collection, and communicate effectively with nursing and unit staff. Responsibilities also include collecting, processing, and distributing lab specimens, aiding in specimen preparation for analysis, and potentially assisting with routine technical procedures. The role involves preparing blood components as directed, performing diverse clerical duties such as order processing, report filing, patient billing, retrieving lab data, canceling tests, and problem-solving. Communication with clients and staff regarding test orders, collection information, problem-solving, referral, and test result information is also key. Additionally, the technician will aid in maintaining section safety, cleanliness, quality control, and general supply inventory levels.

Requirements

  • Less than 1 year of applicable experience.

Responsibilities

  • Collects patient samples using best practices for phlebotomy.

  • Collects patient specimens in accordance with laboratory's policy, procedures and regulatory standards.
  • Correlates patient samples to provider laboratory test orders in the LIS/EMR.
  • Performs and reports Point of Care laboratory testing as required.
  • Uses education and experience to identify and resolve patient circumstances that might interfere with accurate sample collection.
  • Communicates effectively with nursing and unit staff to relay information concerning patient collections.
  • Collects processes and or distributes lab specimens to in-house or reference destinations.
  • Aids in preparing specimens for analysis.
  • May assist with routine technical procedures.
  • Prepares blood components as directed including sign in out.
  • Performs diverse clerical duties including order processing report filing patient billing enter retrieving lab data canceling tests problem-solving.
  • Communicates with clients and staff in providing test order or collection information problem-solving or referral and providing test result information per protocol.
  • Aids in maintaining section safety cleanliness quality control and general supply inventory levels.
