This PRN position involves collecting patient samples using best practices for phlebotomy, documenting receipt of samples in the Lab Information System (LIS), and preparing them for analysis. The role requires collecting patient specimens in accordance with laboratory policies, procedures, and regulatory standards, and correlating patient samples to provider laboratory test orders in the LIS/EMR. The technician will perform and report Point of Care laboratory testing, use education and experience to identify and resolve patient circumstances that might interfere with accurate sample collection, and communicate effectively with nursing and unit staff. Responsibilities also include collecting, processing, and distributing lab specimens, aiding in specimen preparation for analysis, and potentially assisting with routine technical procedures. The role involves preparing blood components as directed, performing diverse clerical duties such as order processing, report filing, patient billing, retrieving lab data, canceling tests, and problem-solving. Communication with clients and staff regarding test orders, collection information, problem-solving, referral, and test result information is also key. Additionally, the technician will aid in maintaining section safety, cleanliness, quality control, and general supply inventory levels.
