About The Position

The Laboratory Support Technician II is responsible for receiving Immunohistochemistry orders and pulling corresponding material. They are responsible for delivery of slides to multiple locations in an accurate and timely fashion. They will help maintain QC on various pieces of laboratory equipment. They are responsible for helping maintain stock and keeping the laboratory clean. They may accession some patient specimens. They will assist the HTs/HTLs in the laboratory as needed. The LST II is capable of cross-training in adjacent laboratories within the Anatomical Pathology Department.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Two (2) years of laboratory or medical registration experience
  • Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Receives patient samples and analyzes biological samples.
  • Uses laboratory computer systems to order tests, generate results, generate reports, track and retrieve specimens, and document communications.
  • Provides technical information about specimen collection, sample transport, sample identification, required documents, test methods, and other related technical information to registered nurses, physicians, and laboratory clients.
  • Performs quality control and calibrations, assesses for acceptability, and takes corrective action as required.
  • Performs basic troubleshooting on equipment used for patient testing and automation equipment.
  • Works with service representatives as needed to facilitate instrument repairs.
  • Prepares, maintains, and performs function checks on analyzers, laboratory equipment, and automation equipment.
  • Maintains equipment used for personal protection such as eyewashes, safety showers, biohazard containers, hoods, chemical cabinets, and personal protective equipment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
