About The Position

Loyola Medical Center is seeking a Lab Support Service Tech for its Pathology department. This full-time, day shift position involves accessioning surgical pathology specimens, providing customer service, and maintaining laboratory records. The role operates in a high-volume, fast-paced environment and requires accuracy and efficiency in specimen handling and data management.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED is required.
Prior knowledge of laboratory testing and specimen processing.

Responsibilities

Complete accessioning of surgical pathology specimens into the Anatomic Pathology information system (CoPath).
Provide outstanding customer service to individuals requesting supplies or information via telephone, computer, or in person.
Accurately maintain and file all glass tissue slides and paraffin tissue blocks generated by the department of pathology.
Perform duties for pre-analytic testing according to standard operating procedures.
Receive and evaluate all specimens to ensure positive identification and appropriateness of sample.
Interact positively with customers.
Work with fellow team members to properly triage and efficiently move samples through the pre-analytic phase of testing or diagnosis.
Accurately order and receive specimens for outside patients with proper client and diagnostic information to assure proper billing and reporting.
Understand and use the laboratory computer system to provide accurate information for testing, tracking, reporting, and billing.
Assist with scanning of slides into Leica Aperio storage, or similar system as needed.
