About The Position

The Laboratory Supervisor II is responsible for all aspects of the laboratory department(s), including direct reports, regulatory requirements, and technical processes. These caregivers have significant experience and knowledge of laboratory operations and caregiver engagement and oversight of the general operation of the department. Oversight of department(s) in large trauma facilities (span of control generally >30).

Requirements

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory / medical technology science. Degree must be obtained through an accredited institution. Education is verified.
  • Current MLT/MLS (ASCP) or equivalent
  • Previous leadership experience
  • Two years laboratory experience
  • BLS certification as applicable

Responsibilities

  • Manages department inventories, operational and capital budgets, issue resolution, and promotes collaborative problem-solving.
  • Responsible for all human resource functions including sufficient staffing, hiring, orientation, appropriate training, annual competency assessment of caregivers, addresses performance gaps and caregiver development.
  • Advanced troubleshooting of instruments and equipment.
  • Mentors and trains department caregivers to assist in troubleshooting.
  • Documents problem investigations and corrective action implementation.
  • Promotes the use of continuous improvement philosophies to ensure the delivery of quality care.
  • Responsible for department compliance with safety initiatives, federal, state and other regulatory bodies including but not limited to CLIA, CAP, JC, OSHA, CMS, etc.
  • Participates or leads system Best Practice Team, as invited.
  • Supports department and caregiver goals and system initiatives.
  • Maintains selected bench competency and skills ensures implementation of standardized processes.
  • Creates and models a culture where caregivers are professional, engaged, valued and recognized and rounds regularly on laboratory caregivers.
  • Able to de-escalate stressful situations calmly and respectfully.
