About The Position

This research will focus on understanding the mechanisms governing the attenuation of the yellow fever virus vaccine strain, 17D. This will involve work in a biosafety-level 3 laboratory and working as part of a team. This position requires work to be completed onsite, at a designated campus work location. Working with pathogens, including the Yellow Fever virus and SARS-CoV-2, is an essential function of this position. UW-Madison complies with all applicable health and safety regulations. Nevertheless, working with pathogens poses health risks. Adults infected with Yellow Fever and/or SARS-CoV-2 can experience negative health consequences. SARS-CoV-2 is the virus that causes COVID-19. Applicants are encouraged to consult their healthcare provider about risks. UW-Madison will provide necessary personal protective equipment, but a successful candidate must be willing to work with Yellow Fever virus and SARS-CoV-2 despite the aforementioned known risks. Yellow Fever vaccination is strongly recommended for individuals working in this position. COVID-19 vaccination is also strongly recommended for individuals working in this position.

Requirements

  • Prior experience with techniques in virology, biochemistry, and immunology.
  • Prior experience experience working with live animals.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts literature reviews, prepares reports and materials, and disseminates information to appropriate entities
  • Writes or assists in developing grant applications and proposals to secure research funding
  • Work in high containment, including mandatory receipt of yellow fever vaccine
  • Collects and analyzes research data, conducts experiments and interviews, and documents results according to established policies and procedures under general supervision and limited responsibility
  • Serves as a main point of contact and liaison with internal and external stakeholders providing information and representing the interests of a specialized research area
  • Attends and assists with the facilitation of scholarly events and presentations in support of continued professional development and the dissemination of research information
  • Assists with the identification of research problems and the development of research methodologies and procedures
