About The Position

The laboratories of Dr. Busik and Dr. Proshlyakov in the Department of Biochemistry and Physiology are looking for a Laboratory Manager to supervise joint biomedical research space, which spans several areas of basic and translational research fields. Key emphasis includes diabetic retinopathy, mitochondrial function and repair, dyslipidemia, and bioengineering. Main experimental techniques include cell culture and animal models, lipidomics, molecular biology, biochemistry, spectroscopy, respirometry, immunohistochemistry, electron microscopy, retinal function techniques, and microfabrication. The duties will involve leading organization of the lab and coordinating research flow of a large laboratory. This will include assessment of supplies needs: organization, tracking of regular use, and ordering. Addressing lab equipment needs, procuring equipment, organizing training and maintenance. Organization of laboratory electronic planning and records, ensuring data traceability. Training of new personnel and enforcing adherence of all personnel to established rules and protocols, including benchwork and electronic lab organization. Establishing workflow in compliance with EHS, Biosafety, IUCUC and IRB protocols for laboratory projects. Successful candidate will be expected to conduct both management and hands-on work.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in a Biological Science, Chemistry, or Physical Science or related field.
  • 60 months experience working in a basic science research facility/laboratory.
  • 24 months experience as a senior-level supervisor and/or leadership role in a research laboratory.
  • Bachelor's Degree in a Biological Science, Chemistry or Physical Science and 24 months related experience in lieu of the Master's Degree for a total of 84 months experience.
