The Chemist performs chemical analyses of various types of hazardous and non-hazardous waste to determine compliant treatment and disposal, using a variety of analytical techniques and instruments. This role involves performing preparation techniques and instrumental analysis of environmental samples for the determination of organic and inorganic constituents using approved EPA test methods and Republic Services Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Work Instructions (WI). The Chemist will also participate in the generation of SOPs and Work Instructions (WI), under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager, and prepare samples for laboratory equipment. A key part of the role is utilizing and understanding essential functions for instrument sequencing and data processing, including performing basic instrument maintenance and repairs, performing analytical standard preparations, and maintaining all required documentation with accuracy and clarity. The Chemist will validate methods for testing the content of organics and inorganics using a wide variety of processes and instrumentation, and perform satisfactory Initial Demonstration of Capability (IDOC) and annual Demonstration of Capability (DOC) for all methods conducted. This position also involves identifying the chemical content of materials, researching appropriate treatment studies, and providing technical knowledge to help develop formulas, enhance or create processes, and methods for solving technical problems. Maintaining a clean and safe work environment, staying familiar with quality control measures and calculations, and performing other related duties as assigned are also essential.
