The Chemist performs chemical analyses of various types of hazardous and non-hazardous waste to determine compliant treatment and disposal, using a variety of analytical techniques and instruments. This role involves performing preparation techniques and instrumental analysis of environmental samples for the determination of organic and inorganic constituents using approved EPA test methods and Republic Services Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Work Instructions (WI). The Chemist will also participate in the generation of SOPs and Work Instructions (WI), under the supervision of the Laboratory Manager, and prepare samples for laboratory equipment. Key responsibilities include utilizing and understanding essential functions for instrument sequencing and data processing, performing basic instrument maintenance and repairs, preparing analytical standards, and maintaining accurate documentation. The role also involves validating methods for testing the content of organics and inorganics, performing Initial Demonstration of Capability (IDOC) and annual Demonstration of Capability (DOC), identifying chemical content of materials, researching treatment studies, and providing technical knowledge for problem-solving. A clean and safe work environment must be maintained, along with familiarity with quality control measures and calculations.
