About The Position
This job advertisement is to fill an existing vacancy for a Lab Demonstrator in the OEVI 4P20 Fall D2 course. Compensation for Teaching Assistant, Course Coordinator, and Lab Demonstrator positions is based on employee qualifications. Employees without a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the undergraduate rate of $22.07 per hour (effective September 1, 2024). Employees with a 4-year honours degree or a 3-year pass degree will be paid the graduate rate of $34.73 per hour (effective September 1, 2024). Additional duties required as part of a Teaching Assistant's role will be compensated at the appropriate Teaching Assistant rate. The nominal workload for this position is 10 hours per week, consisting of 6 hours of demonstrating and 4 hours of marking and lab preparation. Duties and responsibilities are in accordance with Article 22 of the Collective Agreement. The incumbent, under the direction of the Senior Lab Instructor, is responsible for understanding laboratory procedures, introducing the lab, demonstrating techniques, assisting students during the lab, maintaining safe lab conditions, preparing and cleaning up the lab, marking lab reports, and attending necessary meetings.
Requirements
- MSc or currently enrolled in a graduate program in Oenology and Viticulture (OEVI)
- Completed OEVI 4P20 or an equivalent course
Responsibilities
- Familiarize with laboratory procedures
- Present an introduction to the lab
- Demonstrate laboratory techniques
- Teach and assist students during the lab
- Maintain safe lab conditions
- Be responsible for lab preparation and cleanup
- Mark lab reports
- Attend meetings as needed
