About The Position

The Lab Automation Tech I role supports all phases of automation projects, from concept development through sustainment of automated systems. This includes prototyping, design, procurement, construction, start-up, testing, and deployment. The position requires adherence to Bayer and industry best practices, collaboration with other team members to meet project objectives (safety, technical correctness, budget, schedule, etc.), and interfacing with various engineering disciplines, customers, and vendors. The role also involves training personnel on automated systems and processes, participating in commissioning and testing, and adhering to safety and intellectual property documentation procedures.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma
  • Education, training, or experience in electrical, chemical, mechanical, agricultural, computer, electromechanics, mechatronics, industrial technologies, or a related field with a strong interest in automation
  • Demonstrated computer hardware and software skills, with basic familiarity with automation control systems
  • Understanding of mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems, with corresponding proficiency in troubleshooting such systems and reading, comprehending, and building from schematics and drawings
  • Systematic approach to problem definition and solution development, with the ability to work as a member of cross-functional teams and participate in multiple projects simultaneously
  • Good organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to effectively engage with team members, management, engineering, suppliers, and internal customers in business-proficient English
  • Strong interest and ability in hands-on troubleshooting, designing, testing, adjusting, and maintaining automated systems, including experience with hand and power tools
  • Willingness and availability to travel depending on project or business needs

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma and 2+ years of relevant experience
  • Associate's degree in a technical or scientific field

Responsibilities

  • Support all phases of automation projects including concept development, prototyping, design, procurement, construction, start-up, testing, deployment, and sustainment of automated systems
  • Follow Bayer and industry best practices in all assigned activities and project work
  • Assist other team members with tasks to ensure project objectives for safety, technical correctness, budget, constructability, schedule, maintainability, operability, and documentation are met
  • Interface with various engineering disciplines, customers, and vendors/suppliers to contribute to successful project execution and reliable ongoing operations
  • Train operations, maintenance, and other personnel on automated systems and related processes as required
  • Participate in check-out, commissioning, testing, start-up, and field support for automated systems
  • Participate in safety reviews and adhere to company procedures for intellectual property documentation and protection
