About The Position

ConvenientMD is seeking a Lab Assistant to support their laboratory services during a period of growth. This role is crucial for the smooth operation of laboratory services as they expand, ensuring timely and high-quality diagnostic results that directly impact patient care. The Lab Assistant will work closely with Lab Technicians and leadership to accurately receive, process, and document specimens, while also supporting PCR and molecular testing. While not performing high-complexity testing independently, this position is vital for maintaining lab throughput, quality, and turnaround times, offering an excellent opportunity for growth in a fast-paced laboratory setting.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience from a laboratory, healthcare, or clinical environment.
  • Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational skills and a strong commitment to accuracy when handling specimens, entering data, and maintaining documentation.
  • Process and safety focused: Comfortable following established procedures, safety protocols, and regulatory requirements to ensure quality and compliance in a laboratory setting.
  • Technically proficient: Comfortable using computers and data entry systems.
  • Able to meet physical requirements: Able to successfully perform the physical demands of the role, including standing for extended periods, completing repetitive tasks, lifting supplies, and wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Thrives in a fast-paced environment: Energized by high-volume work environments and can effectively manage competing priorities while maintaining efficiency, accuracy, and quality standards.

Nice To Haves

  • Coursework or a degree in biology, laboratory science, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience with specimen accessioning, laboratory support functions, or working within regulated environments such as CLIA, COLA, or CAP is a plus.
  • Experience working with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, accession, label, and verify incoming specimens according to laboratory policies and CLIA requirements.
  • Confirm specimen integrity and documentation prior to testing and escalate discrepancies as needed.
  • Assist with sample preparation and staging under supervision.
  • Support PCR and molecular testing workflows by organizing and transporting specimens safely within the lab.
  • Enter accurate specimen and patient data into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
  • Maintain logs, temperature records, and compliance documentation to support quality and regulatory standards.
  • Assist with workload tracking and throughput monitoring.
  • Stock, organize, and monitor lab supplies and consumables.
  • Communicate inventory needs and support basic tracking processes.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant laboratory workspace.
  • Follow all infection control, biosafety, and waste disposal procedures.
  • Support routine safety checks, including eyewash and safety station monitoring.
  • Communicate effectively with lab team members to support workflow efficiency.
  • Partner with clinic teams as needed to clarify specimen collection or documentation.
