About The Position

The Lab Assistant will support daily research activities in the Song Lab under the general direction and supervision of the Principal Investigator and graduate students. The primary focus is managing inventories, maintaining marine animal systems, and supporting research. Applicants must be undergraduate students at the University of Delaware and eligible for work study. Applicants who are not enrolled as University of Delaware undergraduate students will not be considered.

Requirements

Must be eligible for work study.
Be proactive and communicative.
Be organized and attentive to detail.
Be able to work for at least two semesters; summer work is preferred but not required.
Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students.
High familiarity with standard office software, including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Ability to understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds, with or without assistance.
Must be an undergraduate student at the University of Delaware.

Responsibilities

Maintain aquaria and care for live marine organisms used in active research projects.
Filter seawater.
Make media and buffers.
Help wash dishes.
Help autoclave reagents, media, and buffers.
Keep distilled, deionized water stocked.
Maintain stocks of pipette tips, Eppendorf tubes, PCR tubes, and other lab supplies.
Maintain lab equipment.
Maintain lab cleanliness.
Keep lab inventory.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Conduct simple experiments.
