About The Position

Labcorp is seeking a Lab Assistant to join its team in Birmingham, Alabama. The position involves supporting microbiology laboratory operations by receiving, sorting, and preparing clinical specimens; recording specimen and patient information; maintaining equipment and supplies; and following procedures that support laboratory safety and quality. The schedule is Tuesday through Saturday, 1:00 AM to 9:30 AM. The role requires comfort handling biological specimens, accuracy, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced production environment.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Comfort handling biological specimens.
Ability to accurately identify specimens.
Basic computer knowledge and data entry skills.
Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize and multitask.
Ability to work in a fast-paced production environment and meet established turnaround times.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to handle the physical requirements of the position.
Ability to pass a standardized color blindness test.
Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts depending on business needs.

Nice To Haves

Three months or more of specimen processing experience.
Three months or more of medical or laboratory experience.

Responsibilities

Receive and sort clinical laboratory specimens.
Prepare specimens for testing and analysis.
Scan and/or enter specimen and patient information.
Ensure laboratory equipment is working properly and perform minor instrumentation maintenance.
Troubleshoot specimen-related issues.
Replenish test bench supplies as needed.
Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
Complete record logs and other administrative duties as requested.
Follow all Standard Operating Procedures to ensure safety and quality standards.
