About The Position

This role involves assisting in the performance of analytical automated laboratory testing. The Lab Assistant will follow procedures for handling potentially infectious materials and maintain strict asepsis and antisepsis in the performance of duties. Responsibilities include preparing specimens for analyzers, assisting in the operation of laboratory equipment, centrifuging and labeling samples, logging specimens, and storing or discarding specimens as appropriate. The position also involves setting up primary Bacteriological cultures.

Requirements

• Ability to follow procedures for handling potentially infectious materials.
• Ability to follow strict procedures of asepsis and antisepsis.
• Experience preparing bar coded specimens for Chemistry, Hematology and Urine Analyzers.
• Experience assisting in the operation of analyzers.
• Experience centrifuging and labeling urine samples and blood samples.
• Experience logging specimens received in the laboratory.
• Experience storing or discarding specimens for future reference.
• Experience setting up primary Bacteriological cultures.

Responsibilities

• Assist in the performance of analytical automated laboratory testing.

• Assist the CLS in the operation of the analyzer(s) assigned.
• Centrifuge and label urine samples and blood samples.
• Log specimens received in the laboratory by checking the type of specimen(s) received versus the test(s) ordered.
• Store or discard specimens for future reference as appropriate.
• Set up primary Bacteriological cultures.
