About The Position

Requirements

High School Diploma, or equivalent, required.
Completion of a formal phlebotomy training program or equivalent on-the-job training with documented competency required.
BLS certification within forty-five days of hire and maintained current, according to hospital requirement.
Minimum of three years of clinical laboratory experience, required.

Nice To Haves

Certification as a Phlebotomy Technician preferred.

Responsibilities

May perform and report results for waived testing following established procedures and manufacturer instructions.
May perform and report results for moderate complexity testing limited to qualitative assays (e.g., rapid antigen tests, urine dipstick analysis, pregnancy testing).
Responsible for specimen collection, processing, accessioning, labeling, centrifugation, and specimen handling and transport.
Ensures accurate patient identification, specimen integrity, and documentation in the laboratory information system (LIS).
Performs computer entry, filing, telephone communication and other clerical duties.
Demonstrates good telephone etiquette and be able to greet patients and other visitors in a polite and friendly manner.
Possesses good communication skills.
Demonstrates adequate knowledge of the terminology of tests ordered in the laboratory.
Demonstrates a good working knowledge of phlebotomy and the equipment used in collecting specimens from newborns to geriatric patients.
Preparation of specimens for send out to a reference laboratory.
Stocks and orders routine supplies.
Keeps storage areas, trays, centrifuges, and collection areas clean.
Other tasks or responsibilities may be assigned by the department manager/director.
