About The Position

Collect laboratory specimens by venipuncture or skin puncture to aid in the assessment of a patient's medical condition. Performs blood collection procedures using skin (capillary) puncture and venipuncture. Performs specimen collections that require a state license. Ensures proper patient identification, using two unique identifiers. Performs specialized collection procedures i.e. crossmatch blood cultures, glucose tolerance, urine drug screen collection, PKU/T4, therapeutic phlebotomy. Keeps blood drawing trays and equipment clean and well organized. Recognizes anatomic regions and components of the circulatory system. Utilizes proper hand washing. Ensure proper collection for specimen integrity. Utilizes laboratory computer system, collection lists, and pending logs. Practice methods of preventing infection during venipuncture/skin puncture.

Requirements

High school graduate or equivalent required.
One year experience as a hospital phlebotomist or graduate from phlebotomy school.
Louisiana State License as a Laboratory Assistant.
Basic computer skills.
Phlebotomy skills.

Nice To Haves

National Certification preferred.
