About The Position

This is a full-time, third-shift position for a Lab Assistant. The role involves performing venipunctures, heel sticks, and finger sticks to obtain blood samples, ensuring proper patient identification and adherence to collection procedures. The assistant will process and receive specimens, enter outpatient orders into the Laboratory Information System, and collect chain of custody drug screens. Additional duties include assisting with frozen sections, performing clerical tasks, and other related functions as assigned.

Requirements

• A high school diploma or GED
• Documented evidence to perform waived testing
• Current BLS certification
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Moderate knowledge of medical terminology

Nice To Haves

• Completion of a formal training course in phlebotomy procedures from an accredited school or training program
• One year phlebotomy experience including obtaining specimens from neonate, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients

Responsibilities

• Performs venipunctures, heel sticks, and finger sticks to obtain blood samples for testing purposes.
• Properly identifies patients and follows procedures for collection of specimens.
• Processes and receives specimens into the laboratory, following laboratory protocol for specimen acceptability and rejection.
• Enters outpatient orders into Laboratory Information System.
• Collects chain of custody drug screens for pre-employment, post-accident, and just cause cases according to protocol.
• Assists with frozen sections and clerical duties as needed.
• Performs other related functions as assigned.
