This part-time position involves preparing classroom experiments using various solutions, media, supplies, chemicals, and laboratory equipment according to course syllabi and prep sheets. The role requires maintaining adequate stock of equipment and supplies, keeping an inventory, tracking expiration dates, and ensuring organization. Responsibilities also include maintaining and performing minor repairs on equipment, assisting with safety procedures, and proper disposal of waste in accordance with regulations. The Lab Assistant will organize and maintain lab rooms, clean equipment, and perform data entry. They will also greet students and staff professionally, answer telephones, and maintain confidentiality. Additional duties may include preparing cultures, chemicals, and solutions, producing slides or handouts, training new personnel, assisting with student assistants, troubleshooting problems, and assisting faculty with equipment and software. The role requires cross-training, attending meetings, participating in professional development, and representing the department at events. Flexible work schedules, including morning, afternoon, or evening time frames, may be required. Supplemental functions include performing other duties as assigned and maintaining standards in accordance with college policies and Core Values.
