Requirements

  • High school diploma or a GED.
  • Certification as Phlebotomist/Laboratory Assistant.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality on all patients in accordance with Tribal and Federal laws.
  • Able to work in a diverse minority environment.
  • At least one-year experience working in an outpatient laboratory or doctor's office.
  • Able to meet the physical demands of walking, standing and some lifting in the performance of the laboratory duties.
  • Valid driver's license and CPR certification.
  • Excellent customer service skills and communicate effectively.
  • Able to use the computer and type.
  • Pass a recent TB test.
  • Confirmed ability to use computers efficiently and learn the RSTHC laboratory package.
  • Ability to analyze situations accurately and take effective action.
  • Able to work independently, self-starter individual.
  • Adhere to the RSIC attendance and punctuality policies.
  • Able to work with Quest Laboratories and attend trainings when available.

Responsibilities

  • Executing essential laboratory tasks related to drawing whole blood and blood components.
  • Ensuring accurate and efficient blood collection, contributing directly to patient care and diagnostic processes.
  • Performing routine laboratory procedures while adhering to safety standards and best practices.
  • Conducting patient interviews, drawing blood samples, and performing various in-house lab tests such as finger-stick blood tests and Rapid Strep Screens.
  • Centrifuging whole blood to produce various components for testing.
  • Observing thermostats on storage units to confirm that temperature remains constant and within prescribed guidelines.
  • Cleaning and maintaining laboratory equipment, supplies and laboratory.
  • Testing reagents and maintaining equipment logs.
  • Performing related clerical duties, ordering supplies, statistical records and printing reports.
  • Updating test information as needed; entering in-house results into the computer; faxing results to outside providers.
  • Ensuring the laboratory CUA license is current and updated every two years.
  • Other duties as assigned.
