About The Position
Virginia Oncology Associates, the largest group of medical professionals in Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina devoted exclusively to cancer care and blood disorders, has an exciting opportunities for a Part-Time Lab Tech (Phlebotomist) to support our office located in Norfolk.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of one year phlebotomy experience strongly preferred.
- Must be willing to travel between sites as needed.
- Full range of body motion including manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination in operation and manipulation of complex laboratory equipment.
- Sitting/standing for extensive periods of time with the use hands to finger, handle, or feel and arms to reach or carry.
- Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 lbs.
- Corrected vision, color perception and hearing to normal range.
- Legible handwriting.
Responsibilities
- Collects viable and appropriate specimens from patients as ordered and performs specimen analysis of all chemistry, hematology, and immunology specimens as directed.
- Assists with testing procedures.
- Maintains appropriate documentation including test report logs, quality control logs, equipment records, and checklists.
- Sends specimens to reference labs for any testing not performed in-house.
- Processes incoming orders for lab testing.
- Updates and files all daily paperwork, lab logs, and maintenance logs.
- Operates designated laboratory equipment as directed and performs appropriate instrument maintenance as indicated.
