About The Position

Make every specimen count while providing compassionate, professional patient care. Raleigh Medical Group, PA is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Lab Assistant - Phlebotomist to support our laboratory team. This role is responsible for obtaining high-quality blood specimens, supporting laboratory operations, and helping ensure accurate and timely clinical laboratory results. The ideal candidate is professional, patient-focused, organized, and confident performing blood collection while following established specimen-handling, infection-prevention, safety, and confidentiality standards.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certificate from a completed phlebotomy program.
  • Minimum of six months of phlebotomy experience.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, blood collection procedures, infection prevention, and laboratory safety practices.
  • Strong communication, patient-service, organization, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and protect confidential patient information.

Nice To Haves

  • One to two years of phlebotomy experience.
  • Experience working in a physician office or outpatient clinical setting.
  • Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) certification through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), or equivalent recognized certification.

Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory computer functions, including adding or canceling tests, receiving specimens, and printing labels.
  • Prepare and assemble blood collection equipment and supplies according to test and procedure requirements.
  • Verify patient identity using appropriate identifiers prior to specimen collection.
  • Collect blood specimens through venipuncture, arterial puncture, and capillary puncture, as appropriate to the role and established procedures.
  • Accurately identify, label, handle, and prepare specimens for processing.
  • Follow established procedures for specimen collection, storage, transport, and documentation.
  • Handle sensitive patient situations with professionalism, discretion, and compassion.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and healthy work environment by following infection-control procedures, safety requirements, and applicable regulations.
  • Monitor and maintain an adequate inventory of laboratory and phlebotomy supplies.
  • Travel to other clinic locations as needed to support laboratory and patient-care operations.
  • Protect patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA and organizational privacy requirements.
  • Perform other laboratory-related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
