About The Position

The Pre-Analytical Assistant II in the Tech Ops Department is responsible for knowing all of the functions of the Pre-Analytical Assistant I, plus additional functions. This role involves meeting or exceeding productivity and quality standards, solving complex problems, and understanding the impact of specimen processing on testing departments and result quality. The position requires identifying and resolving issues with specimen types, test orders, and specimen integrity. The Lab Assistant II must complete all required documentation accurately and within assigned timeframes, learn additional functions for cross-functional support, and adhere to all company policies and procedures, including safety and compliance. A basic understanding of compliance policies related to test ordering is also necessary, including the ability to research test ordering information. The role also includes sorting, racking, picking up, and delivering specimens, operating a centrifuge, and aliquoting samples.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required)
  • Medical background required, which includes medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory
  • Must have familiarity with personal computers and basic Windows-based software
  • Good typing skills

Nice To Haves

  • One year of experience in a laboratory environment or a production setting

Responsibilities

  • All responsibilities of the Pre-Analytical Assistant I and II
  • Meets or exceeds productivity and quality standards for Pre-Analytical Assistant I
  • Solves more complex problems on a routine basis
  • Demonstrates a basic understanding of how Specimen Processing and Tech Ops impact testing departments and result quality
  • Identifies problems with specimen types vs test orders, missing information, improperly positioned bar code labels, etc. with regard to load building, aliquoting, and test add processing
  • Understands the complex relationship between test(s) ordered and specimens received with load building to correct departments
  • Completes all required written documentation such that it is understandable to others, legible and within the assigned time frame
  • Meets quality and production standards within 6 months of completing training
  • Learns additional functions within Tech Ops and Specimen Processing to ensure cross-functional support
  • Adheres to all Quest Diagnostics policies and procedures, including safety and compliance
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
  • Demonstrates an understanding of compliance policies related to test ordering, which requires developing the ability to research test ordering information on translation tables, computer systems, and the directory of services
  • Sorts, racks, picks up and delivers specimens to the laboratory, specimen storage, operates centrifuge, aliquots
